Rising Demand Means We Need More Natural Gas Storage

“I’m begging somebody in this room to build natural gas storage,” NRG Energy’s Robert Gaudette told attendees of the LDC NatGas to Power Forum.

Gaudette said that AI data centers and industrial onshoring are boosting electricity demand, and that the current electrical grid can’t handle. He said part of the infrastructure buildout must be natural gas storage.

Energy storage conversations with investors and customers usually focus on batteries, he said. The missing piece is natural gas storage, which is needed to provide flexibility as wind and solar output swings.
