In this episode of the Let’s Clear the Air energy podcast, co-hosts Adam Murray, Bryan Nix, and Stuart Saulters welcome Richard Meyer, Vice President of Energy Markets Analysis and Standards at the American Gas Association.

With a wealth of data, real-world energy industry experience, and wry humor, the group digs into how tariffs are rippling through supply chains and consumer bills, why LNG exports are surging to record highs, and what the U.S.’s expanding production footprint means for energy security.

They also spotlight the pressing need to meet escalating demand — from power plants to manufacturing to data centers — while keeping prices competitive on the global stage and ensuring rock-solid reliability when temperatures soar or plummet. Spoiler alert: we’re going to need all available resources, including oil and gas.

About Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer is Vice President of Energy Markets, Analysis, and Standards at the American Gas Association, supporting over 200 natural gas utilities nationwide. He also serves as lead staff for the American Gas Foundation, promoting independent research to inform energy policy. Before AGA, he worked on gas and climate modeling at ICF. He holds degrees in Global Environmental Politics and Physics, and serves on sustainability and energy economics boards. Richard lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two sons.

Key Takeaways

  • Tariff Tumbles
Trade barriers aren’t just a policy debate; they drive up costs for consumers and snarl supply chains.
  • LNG on the Launchpad
U.S. liquefied natural gas exports are at record levels, opening new markets and strategic partnerships without spiking U.S. energy prices.
  • Foundations of Energy Security
Natural gas underpins reliable baseload power and emergency backup, making it indispensable for national stability.
  • A Production Network
From the Marcellus to the Permian to the Rockies, America’s gas plays deliver a diverse, resilient supply.
  • Meeting Soaring Demand
Power generators, factories, and hyperscale data centers are all lining up for more pipeline capacity.
  • Globally Competitive Pricing
U.S. benchmarks remain attractive versus international rivals, helping domestic producers win market share.
  • Industrial & Tech Investment
A surge of capital into manufacturing and high-performance computing is fueling new demand hotspots.
  • An Optimistic Outlook
With ample resources, robust infrastructure planning, and smart policy, the energy market’s trajectory is decidedly upbeat.
